Best School Magazine
Prize: An Apple iMac computer for the winning school

This category is open to any school magazine or newspaper produced by secondary school students and published between 1st January 2011 and 30th April 2012. Post a hard copy of the publication with your application AND e-mail an electronic soft copy in PDF format. For publications with more than one issue, send a MAXIMUM of three issues in hard copy and soft copy.

Each submission must be accompanied by an official entry form (available here). For this category, include details of the structure of the publication including editorial positions, design and production details, issue frequency and student participation.

Post your hard copies to: Media Student of the Year Competition, Journalism and Media Faculty, Griffith College Dublin, South Circular Road, Dublin 8.

E-mail soft copies, along with an electronic copy of your entry form to [email protected], putting ‘Best School Magazine Entry’ in the subject line.

Photograph of the Year
Prize: An Apple iPad 2 for the winning student

Be in with a chance to have your photograph selected as the “Griffith Photo of the Year Competition”. Simply have a look through the photographs you have taken this year, choose a couple that you are particularly proud of. Perhaps you got a lot of positive  comments about a particular photograph or have been told you have a good eye for photography…The photographs can be of anything, they can be humerous or serious. You might have photographs that represent you or your life. They can be portraits, fashion, documentary, landscape, architectural…
it’s completely open.

To be in with a chance of having your photograph selected, here’s what you need to do:

  • Save your photograph in the format of a JPEG and save it as your “firstname.surname”
  • Put “Photo of the Year Entry” into the subject line of the email
  • Complete an official entry form and include it with your photograph. You can download an entry form here. In the ‘Description of entry’ area of the form, write a few lines about the photographs you are submitting. Where and when did you take the photograph, what is the background to the photograph or perhaps there’s a funny story to accompany the shot. If the photo has a title do include that also.
  • Please email your photographs along with an electronic copy of the entry form to [email protected].

Young Journalist of the Year
Prize: An Apple iPad 2 for the winning student

Think you can be a journalist? Write 800 to 1,000 words on ‘Why Journalism Matters’. E-mail your entry in Microsoft Word, RTF or PDF format to, along with an electronic entry form (available here).  You do not need to include any extra details for this section.

Email your entry with an electronic copy of the completed entry form to [email protected], putting ‘Young Journalist of the Year Entry’ in the subject line.
